Experts from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) visited the National Audit Office today. The meeting was attended by IMF Mission Head Kazuko Shirono, mission experts Alla Myrvoda, Lukas Boer, and Thibault Cezanne, as well as Lithuania’s representative to the IMF, Executive Director Vitas Vasiliauskas. The National Audit Office was represented at the meeting by Jaroslav Mečkovski and Milda Pieškutė, senior economists at the Fiscal Monitoring Centre.
During the meeting, participants discussed the state of Lithuania’s public finances, current fiscal policy issues, and reform priorities. The discussions focused particularly on the fiscal performance for 2025 relative to budget targets, revenue and expenditure developments, public debt developments and sustainability, the impact of deferred delivery of military equipment on public finances in terms of the cash and accrual accounting.
The meeting also addressed the assessment of fiscal policy stance, public sector wage developments, risks to budget executing, net expenditure path, adherence to fiscal rules. IMF experts and representatives of the Fiscal Monitoring Centre discussed the state of fiscal reserves and the need for sustainable revenue sources for the state budget.
Against the backdrop of rising energy prices, discussions focused on the implementation of targeted measures and their impact on public finances.
IMF experts visit the National Audit Office on a regular basis to discuss Lithuania’s fiscal situation, public finance management, and measures to ensure long-term fiscal sustainability.
