Picture for An international event on municipality audit issues held at the National Audit OfficeThe National Audit Office (NAO) is hosting an international working meeting on municipality audit involving representatives of the Supreme Audit Institutions of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary which conduct audits of local authorities in their countries.

“Issues relating to municipality audit are highly relevant, important and challenging to everyone. Although countries follow different strategies and scopes of audit and rely on different legal bases, we are all united in our desire to improve and to find the most efficient ways of work with local authorities," said Auditor General Giedrė Švedienė opening the meeting.

The participants of the international event will discuss municipal debt issues, share experiences and best practices in municipality audits carried out in their countries, and discuss the scope of municipality audits, problems encountered, audit results, and legal aspects.

Representatives of the Association of Comptrollers for Local Authorities in Lithuania, who will also take part in the meeting, will present the role of Municipal Control and Audit Services in assessing borrowing processes municipalities.

Aldo, an external session will be held in the NAO division in Panevėžys on September 10.

Other issues discussed during the working meeting will include the most efficient and effective audit principles and ways to strengthen and further develop the cooperation of the Supreme Audit Institutions in the area municipality audit. It is expected that the discussion of this issue initiated by the National Audit Office will become a good role model for other countries as well.
