Auditor General Irena Segalovičienė met today with Dr Laima Liucija Andrikienė, Member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA), to discuss the prospects for cooperation between the National Audit Office and the ECA.
During the bilateral visit to the National Audit Office, the most important areas of our institution's activities were talked about - from defence and national security to the welfare of people. Challenges arising in the ECA's audits were widely discussed, and opportunities for closer cooperation between the two institutions were explored.
"The European Court of Auditors is our important partner in ensuring that European Union funds are used transparently and effectively. This cooperation not only allows us to share good audit practice, but also to strengthen the impact of audits and confidence in public finances across Europe," the Auditor General reflected on the importance of the partnership between the National Audit Office and the ECA.
The ECA is the European Union's institution, established in 1977 to audit its finances. It is an independent external audit institution for EU finances, verifying that the EU funds have been allocated and spent legally and in accordance with the principles of sound financial management, and that they bring economic benefits. The ECA operates as a collegiate body made up of 27 members, one from each Member State.
